Kim Kardashian may look like she created the trend but being of Middle Eastern origin, that procedure has been popular despite of the reality-tv star. ‘We now see patients of different nationalities also asking for this procedure’, says Dr Roberto Viel, ‘and in addition, an advancement of technology has also enabled us to add the patient’s own stem cells into the fat, helping fat survival, resulting in the buttocks retaining the exact volume as requested by the patient.’
Tummy Tuck (Major)
A tummy tuck (also referred to as abdominoplasty) occurs when the surgeons removes all the excess skin and fat from the abdomen through a low transverse incision made below the bikini line, and this can also be performed in conjunction with a liposcution. The belly button is then detached from the skin, allowing complete redraping of the abdominal skin, and a new belly button is created. The slack muscles are pulled together and sutured in place. ‘ This surgery can have a dramatic effect on the patient’s body allowing them to wear more fitted clothes with greater confidence’ says Dr Maurizio Viel.
Tummy Tuck (Minor)
This is similar to the tummy tuck major but the scar is smaller, closer to the size of a c-section scar. The surgeon does not in this case have to tighten the muscles but only remove the excess skin often caused by large weight gain followed by weight loss. This is typical of women who have had multiple births.
