Tummy tuck, medically known as abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen, giving a firmer and flatter tummy. This surgery can either be done under intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia.
In Dubai and in our London practice, we offer both mini abdominoplasty and the full abdominoplasty. The main difference is that mini abdominoplasty is best suited for those who have more loose skin on the lower abdomen, while the full abdominoplasty is for tightening of the upper and lower abdomen. Another difference is in the navel. For the mini abdominoplasty, the navel stays the same but in the full abdominoplasty, a new navel is made. Lastly, for the full abdominoplasty, tightening of the abdominal wall is done by suturing the muscles inside which is not normally done with the mini tummy tuck.
After the surgery, a compression garment will be worn for up to one month. This will help in reducing the swelling and keeps the abdomen in place while healing. Also, you will be expected to walk a little bit bent for about a week to support the stitches. The stitches are removed in 10 days for the navel (full abdominoplasty) and 2 weeks for the abdominal incisions.
If you are considering this type of surgery, we advised that you speak to one of our doctors, Dr. Maurizio and Dr. Roberto Viel, world- renowned twin Italian Plastic Surgeons with over 20 years experience both in London and Dubai. They can advise you on which specific treatment or surgery is best suited for your needs.
