Fact file: VASER Liposuction
What does it do? Takes away excess fatty tissue by dissolving fat cells and then extracting them.
Types of Anaesthetic: Local anesthetic with sedation.
How long does VASER Liposuction take? Between 1- 4 hours, depending on how much fat is removed.
Length of stay? Patients can leave 3 – 4 hours after the surgery.
What happens? The area to be sculpted is filled with a special saline solution and local anesthetic that helps to numb the site and shrink the blood vessels (to minimize blood loss and bruising). It also makes the fat cells easier to liquefy. Then the small probes are inserted which transmit sound energy: this targets and dissolves fat cells while harmlessly bouncing off other tissue. The emulsified fat flows into the saline solution and is easily extracted in liquid form.
How does it feel? There are some soreness and tenderness afterwards.
Scars? Absolutely minimal. Less than 1 cm per incision.
Swelling and Bruising? Yes, but far less than a traditional liposuction.
Recovery Time for VASER Liposuction? 48 hours to recover from the anaesthesia. You will need to wear a special garment 24 hours a day for one week, and you will not able to show during this time. You return after 1 week to have your bandages removed. However, (within certain restrictions), you can return to work within days and be back to the gym after one week.
Side Effects? The usual risks associated with all surgery apply. Other risks are unlikely but could include contour irregularities, prolonged swelling or numbing etc.
Contraindications? General.
When will I see results? Four weeks after surgery.
What’s the optimum age to have this? Any. We discourage and prefer no patients under 18 years old.
Cost? Medium to High.
