The skin surrounding the eyes is thin and is easily prone to damage which results in dark, puffy circles. Eyebags can have a significant effect when it comes to the overall appearance of the face and eventually causes someone to appear tired and haggard. Moreover, age-related changes such as loss of volume and sagging eyelids is also a concern for some individuals.

Generally, people have experimented and tried non-invasive methods to lessen these changes. They have tried undereye creams, and even placing cold compresses to the eyes. Although these may help in some ways, the eyebags are still present and may persist.

The most effective way of removing the eyebags and droopy eyelids is through an eyelid surgery known as blepharoplasty.

Blepharoplasty: What is it all about?

Blepharoplasty removes the excess skin, and sometimes fat surrounding the eyes. This effectively gives you a refreshed younger-looking appearance. The operation is done under sedation which is a type of anaesthesia that makes you have a deep sleep and pain-free during the procedure.

Blepharoplasty will typically last for an hour to a couple of hours, depending on the areas needed. There will be a tiny dressing placed on the stitches.

Blepharoplasty under Sedation

In sedation, the airway is not fully compromised as compared to general anaesthesia. A nasal prong or facial mask is sufficient for airway support during a sedation procedure. On top of that, the recovery period after sedation is also quicker than general anaesthesia.

After Blepharoplasty

Oozing on the first day is not uncommon and can be minimised by applying an intermittent cold compress. It is also important to avoid any activities that can increase the pressure around the suture.

Bruises and swelling are fairly common after a blepharoplasty, so it is best to get off from work for a few days. The stitches are usually removed within 4 to 5 days. Also, the wounds will be a little bit reddish at first but will eventually lighten. You may apply a make-up once the wounds have completely healed.
