Breast Augmentation Dubai

Q&A with Dr Roberto Viel

Who typically chooses to have a breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation patients tend to be from the age of 22 years up to 55 years old.  Patients who have not had children tend to have implants because of their naturally smaller shapes, whilst others who have had children would like to return back to their normal shapes before children or they may go up one or two cup sizes.

What kind of look do you recommend to your patients for breast augmentation surgery?

We always recommend the natural look with our patients where the size of the breast implants should be in proportion with the rest of the body.  There are only a few patients who may wish to increase their cup sizes even more.  At the London Centre for Aesthetic Surgery, we use cutting edge technology, such as the Chrysalis, which helps with a goggle for patients to see what their breasts would look like.  The results of this technology allows the patient to take it home to show their partners or family, and to think about the surgery.

What kind of implants do you use for breast augmentation?

It’s important to have a good discussion with your surgeons.  We typically use only the ‘gummy bear’ implants.  This means even when the implants are cut in half, the silicon remains within its casing.  They are also natural to the touch.

Do I need to change my implants again after 10 years?

The advance technology and types of implants available means that the implants are able to last a lifetime so there is no need to change them.  However, as we get older, things still move south so some patients might come back for some extra lift later on in life.

How long does the surgery take?

The surgery tends to take 1 hour to 1.5 hours.

Where does the surgery take place?

Your operation will be performed at the London Centre for Aesthetic Surgery Clinic, a day hospital, based in Dubai Healthcare City, under sedation, so you’ll sleep through the entire operation. (this is not to be mistaken as general anaesthesia). You will need to arrange someone to collect you from the clinic as driving and using public transport are to be avoided for 48hrs after general anaesthetic.

How do I get ready for the surgery?

In the week before your breast augmentation surgery with LCAS Dubai, you should not take any medications containing aspirin (acetyl salicylic acid), since these products affect the bloods clotting mechanism and therefore may lead to excessive bleeding during and after surgery, hence resulting in increased bruising. Taking high doses of vitamin E preparations, eating large amounts of garlic and consuming alcohol can also produce the same result and should be avoided. If pain medication is necessary, we recommend you take ibuprofen/paracetamol.

It is in your own best interests to quit smoking, at least two weeks before and until 2 weeks after surgery. It is well known that smoking causes narrowing of the blood vessels, which leads to a decreased blood supply to the skin, thus slowing and interfering with the healing process. Be sure to inform your surgeon of any medications you take, as well as possible allergies including (drug, latex, plasters etc).

Your surgeon will decide whether preliminary examinations are necessary, such as blood tests, an electrocardiogram, or x-rays of the lungs. If this is the case, these tests should be performed several weeks before the surgery.  It is best not to wear any makeup when you come in for your operation, and to tie your hair back if possible.

Your plastic surgeons, Drs Roberto and Maurizio Viel, will discuss the best approach to help you achieve your ideal look and goals.
