Dr Roberto Viel | Blepharoplasty | Eyelid and Eyebag Surgery
As we age, the skin above and below our eyes begins to lose its elasticity and sag due to gravity and natural skin attrition. Some people are also genetically prone to hooded eyes where they have excess skin or fat above the eye. The best way to treat these troublesome areas is with blepharoplasty or what is more commonly known as an eye lift.
Dr Roberto Viel describes an eye lift is a form of cosmetic eye surgery to remove bags, fat and excess skin from around the eye area to improve the appearance and smooth the skin making it less baggy and heavy as well as potentially improving peripheral vision. An eye lift also has the advantage of being a relatively simple procedure without looking like you’ve had much ‘work done’ and will still leave you looking and feeling brighter and fresher.
Hooded eyes can cause problems with reading, driving, writing and other day-to-day actives which can easily be rectified with a simple eye or brow lift. We find that patients who have problems with their eyesight due to heavy eyelids or a hooded appearance will experience a significant improvement in their eyesight after the surgery.
Depending on the area to be targeted during eyelid surgery your surgeon will advise either an upper eye lift, a lower eye lift or both.
The procedure for the upper eye lift involves a fine incision along the crease of the eyelid through which a small amount of excess skin is gently removed from the eyelid. During a lower eyelid lift a small incision is made just below the lower lashes to remove any fatty deposits and sagging skin. Fine stitches are then used to close the incision.
The results of the procedure will be to reduce any puffy bags, gently lift the eyelids to remove any hooded appearance without stretching the skin and give an improved appearance of tired and weary eyes.
Your plastic surgeons, Drs Roberto and Maurizio Viel, will discuss the best approach to help you achieve your ideal look and goals.
