VAGINAL REJUVENATION (VAGINOPLASTY)
Vaginaoplasty is a genital surgical procedure to tighten vaginal muscles. For women who’ve experienced multiple childbirth's, vaginal muscles tend to experience enlargement due to stressful expansion during the delivery. The result can often be loose, weak, vaginal muscles. Even after exercise (Kegal), the condition of the vaginal muscles may not improve. Many women find that while the experience of childbirth may be the most rewarding of their lives, sometimes the after effects for both their sexual partner and themselves is not as satisfying as it once was.

Vaginoplasty, sometimes referred to as Vaginal Rejuvenation, is a procedure that can usually correct the problem of stretched vaginal muscles resulting from childbirth(s), and is a direct means of enhancing one’s sexual life once again. The procedure typically tones vaginal muscle, resulting in greater contraction strength and control, thereby permitting greater sensation during sexual experiences.

Generally, anyone in average physical condition or good health can be a candidate for vaginoplasty surgery.

BEFORE YOUR SURGERY
In the week before, you should not take any medications containing aspirin (acetyl salicylic acid), since these products affect the bloods clotting mechanism and therefore may lead to excessive bleeding during and after surgery, hence resulting increased bruising. Taking high doses of vitamin E preparations, eating large amounts of garlic and consuming alcohol can also produce the same result and should be avoided. If pain medication is necessary, we recommend you take ibuprofen/paracetamol.

It is in your own best interests to quit smoking, at least two weeks before and until 2 weeks after surgery. It is well known that smoking causes narrowing of the blood vessels, which leads to a decreased blood supply to the skin, thus slowing and interfering with the healing process.

Be sure to inform your surgeon of any medications you take, as well as possible allergies including (drug, latex, plasters and so on).

Your surgeon will decide whether preliminary examinations are necessary, such as blood tests, an electrocardiogram, or x-rays of the lungs. If this is the case, these tests should be performed several weeks before the surgery.

Your operation will be performed under general anaesthesia, so you'll sleep through the entire operation. Most people stay one night in hospital and return home the day after surgery. You will need to arrange someone to collect you from hospital as driving and using public transport are to be avoided for 48hrs after general anaesthetic.

THE PROCEDURE
Vaginoplasty is a standard gynecologic surgical procedure.  It involves  tightening the vaginal muscles and surrounding soft tissues, by reducing excess vaginal mucosa (vaginal lining). The result is an immediate decrease in the size of vaginal muscles, resulting in more friction during sexual experiences. The G-spot, which lies in the anterior (front) wall of the vagina is not affected by this procedure.

Surgical risks are few, but include infection, bleeding and scarring.

AFTER THE PROCEDURE
You can shower on the day following surgery. It is advised to only shower for the first 3 days, after which you may commence salt baths and regular bathing after 5 days. Expect some slight bleeding in the first 24hrs and some mild to moderate swelling which will peak after two to three days then disappears rapidly over the next three weeks. Typically there is minimal or no bruising.

After surgery, the patient is usually able to walk comfortably within a few days and can resume normal, but light, everyday activities the day following surgery. You will usually need only one week off work and may return to sexual activities within 4-6 weeks. In most case the area heals completely within six weeks.

After surgery, sensation and function are normal, well maintained and enhanced.

This procedure is performed by Dr Aly Alaily at BUPA Hospital, Hastings, St. Leonards on Sea. If you have any further questions or queries about this procedure, please call 01424 757 400.
