The growing demand for non-invasive therapies is a major trend in aesthetic medicine.  Macrolane gel is a Hyaluronic Acid based gel that can give non-invasive body-shaping results.

Hyaluronic acid is present in the skin and many other tissues.  It consists of polysaccharide molecules that are naturally present in the body; these molecules attract moisture.  Hyaluronic acid is the skin’s sub-structure, organising substances like collagen and elastin to give the skin it’s form.  The distribution of hyaluronic acid in the skin changes as time passes.  Because hyaluronic acid helps bind with water, the skin’s capacity to retain water declines with age.  The result is drier, thinner skin.  As the skin loses volume, it also becomes more flaccid and less elastic, which results in the formation of wrinkles and an aged appearance.

Macrolane is a treatment that can be used to contour and sculpt the breasts, décolletage, buttocks and calves and also to restore volume and smoothe skin irregularities.  The results are completely natural, both visually and to the touch.

The therapy is performed by a Q-Med accredited plastic surgeon, who injects the crystal-clear gel, quickly and simply.  The therapy leaves no scarring, there is no need for a general anaesthetic or overnight hospital stay.  The body gradually metabolises the hyaluronic acid gel, which eventually, is completely eliminated.  Patients, can therefore, receive further treatments to add more volume or continue previous treatments to retain volume, and thus achieve the desired result.

What to expect from fillers

The most important fact to remember about Macrolane is that the results are not permanent.  Injected material is eventually absorbed by the body.  You should not expect the same long-lasting results that may be gained from cosmetic surgery.

In some individuals, the results may last about 12 months; in others, the results may be maintained longer.  Researchers believe that age, genetic background, skin quality and lifestyle as well as the injected body site may all play a role in the injected material's "staying power." However, the precise reason for the variation of results among patients has yet to be identified.

Risks related to fillers

Common injection-related reactions might occur including, erythema, swelling, tenderness, pain, bruising or itching at the injection site. The area treated may also feel hard with some possible lumpiness for a few weeks.  There is a small risk of infections and a course of antibiotics will be prescribed after treatment.

Your Macrolane procedure

Your treatment will take place at our Harley St clinic.  The surgeon will discuss with you exactly where you would like to have the product applied, then he will inject some local aneasthetic into and around the area to which you are having the treatment, to numb the area.  Using a syringe, the surgeon will inject the macrolane into the specific areas required.  A small stitch will be used to close the incisions & the surgeon will advise whether this can be dissolvable of whether you will need to return in 7 days for this to be removed.  The treatment will take around 30 mins.

You can return to normal activities immediately after your treatment, however you will be slightly numb for a few hours until the local anaesthetic wears off.

What are the benefits of Macrolane to patients?

How does Macrolane feel?

Macrolane feels firm for a few days, as it absorbs water.  After 1-2 weeks it will begin to soften and after a few weeks will become quite soft and feel.

What happens after a Macrolane treatment?

After your Macrolane treatment, you will see the results instantly and can return to your normal daily routine shortly afterwards.  However, some common injection-related reactions may occur including, redness, swelling, tenderness, pain, bruising or itching.  Reactions normally resolve spontaneously within a few weeks. 

During the first week after treatment you should avoid strenuous exercise or any activity that could put pressure on the treatment area.  You should also avoid exposing the treated area to intense heat or cold.

How long does Macrolane last?

In some individuals, the results may last about 12 months; in others, the results may be maintained longer.  Most people will have 200mls in the first treatment and return for a 100mls top-up in 12 months time.

POST OPERATIVE – MALE ENHANCEMENT

Rest for 24 hours after surgery.

Take all antibiotics as instructed.

Avoid aspirin and alcohol for 48 hours.

Dressing must stay intact for the first 24 hours,

After 3 days you may shower with warm water (not hot!).

Dissolvable stitches will be used and will take between 7 – 10 days to dissolve.

After the treatment the area will feel quite hard, this is normal and will soften within 2 – 3 weeks.  You may massage the area after 3 days.

Return to the clinic 2 weeks after your treatment for your review with the surgeon.

You should refrain from sexual intercourse for 6 weeks after treatment & use lubrication on the first couple of occasions thereafter.

Contact the Surgeon/Clinic if you have increased pain, bleeding, fever or marked swelling.
