What to expect from fillers

The most important fact to remember about injectable fillers is that the results are not permanent. Injected material is eventually absorbed by the body. You should not expect the same long-lasting results that may be gained from cosmetic surgery.

Risks related to fillers

When injectables are administered by a qualified plastic surgeon, complications are infrequent and usually minor in nature. Still, individuals vary greatly in their anatomy, their physical reactions and their healing abilities. The outcome of treatment with injectables is never completely predictable.

Risks include allergic reaction, infection, abscesses, open sores, skin peeling, bruising, scarring and lumpiness, which may persist over the treated area. Reports of these problems are very rare.

People with a history of cold sores should take extra care and may experience a reoccurrence after filler treatment, although this can be reduced by the use of antiviral medicines. You should discuss this with the surgeon prior to treatment.

Planning your treatment
Facial rejuvenation is very individualized. That's why it's important to discuss your expectations with a certified cosmetic surgeon who has experience with many different types of surgical and non-surgical facial procedures.

Your filler procedure
Your filler injection will take place at our Harley St clinic. The surgeon will discuss with you exactly where you would like to have the filler injected, then he will inject some local aneasthetic into and around the area to which you are having the treatment, to numb the area. Using a syringe, the surgeon will inject the filler material into the specific areas required. The treatment will take around 20 mins.

You can return to normal activities immediately after your treatment, however you will be slightly numb for a few hours until the local anaesthetic wears off.

If you have any further questions or queries about this procedure, please feel free to call and speak to either Dr Roberto Viel, Dr Maurizio Viel or any of our nurses.
