Abdominoplasty tummy tuck 300x200 Back Fat! How to eliminate it by Dr Roberto Viel

VASER Liposuction at LCAS London – many of us pinch the fat on our back that slightly protrudes when we wear tight bras or clothes accentuating the folds of fat.  See how this can be removed with the VASER liposuction with Dr Maurizio Viel and Dr Roberto Viel, our cosmetic surgeons with over 20 years experience.

Back Fat!

As summer approaches, the layers of clothing no longer hide the bulges that have grown over the winter months. This past winter in London has been unusually harsh.  In Dubai, the weather is much warmer these past few days and we hope that it is the end of the sandstorm season – it has been an experience not seen for a few years.  It has been noted that more and more people are concerned about their back fat – it is the folds that occur when we put on our bras spilling over the tight elastic. Unfortunately, we are not able to control where the body collects fat, and fat on the back is also the hardest to remove even with diet and exercise as many patients have come to realize.

What is the solution?  We offer one invasive solution and one non-invasive solution.

Invasive procedure – VASER Liposuction. Available at LCAS Dubai and LCAS London.

With an incision of less than 1 cm, the surgeons, Dr Maurizio Viel and Dr Roberto Viel, are able to eliminate the fat pockets.  The technology created in the USA uses ultrasound technology set at a frequency to target only our fat cells, essentially ‘melting’ the fat cells. This essentially means less bruising and a much quicker recovery time compared with traditional liposuction.  After the VASER Liposuction procedure, the patient’s find that their back is smooth and it is much more flattering to wear tight clothes again.

Check our special offer this March for VASER Liposuction to the back area.

Non-invasive – D-Actor treatment (only available at LCAS Dubai) and LPG packages

The D-Actor uses acoustic wave therapy which are introduced to the various parts of the body to help skin smoothing and reduce circumference of body regions such as thighs and the abdomen area.

LPG technology has been around for more than 20 years, and it still works hand in hand with liposuction to help with tightening of the skin, and making the results of the liposuction and recovery much more efficient.

rhinoplasty 300x200 Dermal Fillers with Dr Roberto Viel, LCAS LondonHarley Street, London, UK : Dr Roberto Viel explains about fillers and which mainstream brands that are often used by plastic surgeons or cosmetic surgeons on Harley Street, London or in other parts of the UK.

Do you know what your plastic surgeon or cosmetic surgeon is injecting into your lips when you are getting your dermal filler treatment when visiting them on Harley Street, London?  It is important to ask your plastic surgeon or cosmetic surgeon if you are not sure.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are used to literally ‘fill’ the lines mainly on the face that have been created from static lines or lines that are so deep that you have to fill them out as botox may have only some improvement on the heavy lines.  For example, as we age, the nasolabial lines (lines that connects the corner of our nose to the corner of our lips) deepens or the deep lines between the eyebrows that make us look constantly angry.

Dr Roberto Viel recommends the use of non-permanent dermal fillers because permanent fillers have been seen to have side-effects after a few years.

What part of the body can dermal fillers be used on?

Fillers can be used on the cheek bones, chin and under the eyes to blend certain eye bags, but you should check with your plastic surgeon or cosmetic surgeon in London, UK, during the consultation.  For the breast area, only Macrolane should be used, NOT ordinary dermal fillers.

What are dermal fillers made of?

Most dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, which we naturally have in our bodies.  These fillers typically lasts from 6 – 12 months depending on the brand and the area that is being treated.

Benefits of dermal fillers?

A product called hyaluronidaise is a type of enzyme used to break down hyaluronic acid.  If you decide after a few days that you don’t like your dermal filler treatment, your plastic or cosmetic surgeon is able to erase the results away.  In the past, patients would have to wait for the effects to wear off, now the surgeon is able to fix it.

What are the mainstream forms of dermal fillers

The most common brands of dermal fillers available in London and the rest of UK include, Juvederm, Restylane, and Radiesse.  At LCAS Gulf, we use mainstream brands from reputable companies.  Juvederm, for example, has been created by Allergan (the makers of the botox brand) and it is from the USA. You should do a little research if you are not sure which brands your plastic surgeon or cosmetic surgeon is using.

Abdominoplasty tummy tuck 300x200 Natural looking Breast Augmentation with Dr Roberto Viel at LCASNatural Breast Augmentation with Dr Maurizio Viel and Dr Roberto Viel

At LCAS Dubai and LCAS Harley Street, the surgeons are well-known for creating very natural looking breast augmentations either with breast implants or with the use of fat.  (AKA the organic boob job).  With so much media surrounding breast implants recently, how do you know if you are in safe hands?

How do you choose a plastic or cosmetic surgeon in London?

It is important to choose carefully when selecting a plastic surgeon or cosmetic surgeon.  You need to be comfortable with his/her approach, and he needs to take his time to explain the risk and benefits.  Don’t be embarrassed to have the plastic surgeon explain again the procedure, and don’t feel rushed into any procedure.  It is not a time critical procedure, and you need to feel ready.  It could be this year or next year.  It is also advisable to see 2 – 3 other plastic surgeons to make sure that you have chosen the best one for you.  Also, breast augmentation/enlargements are very common these days so ask a friend for a referral.

Myths about breast augmentation/enlargement surgery

Most patients always assume that you have to look like Dolly Parton or Pamela Anderson if you want breast implants.  The truth is that plenty of women are just like you, considering the prospect, but fearing the worst.  95% of LCAS patients who consider breast augmentation want discreet looking breasts only for their own personal benefit.  Very few patients seek large breast augmentations, and their goal is to look as natural as possible.

How to ensure that the breast augmentation looks natural?

  • The plastic surgeon should be realistic with your body.  If you have a flat chest, he should not over-stretch your skin to take in implants that are too large.  It is like an adult wearing a 5 year old’s t-shirt – it looks over-stretched and not natural.
  • The plastic surgeon is like an artist, and he needs to have the ability of creating the perfect pocket to fit the implant – that is the key.  If the pocket is too large, the implant moves around, and if it too small, the incisions might split.
  • A good surgeon will also be able to make small incisions to fit the implant into the patient, and not leave large ugly scars.

Who decides to have breast augmentation/enlargement surgery?

  • There are patients who are naturally flat-chested, and they would like to enhance their breasts just to be in proportion with the rest of their body.  Often it can be even more noticeable that someone is lacking in the chest area.  These patients often want to be discreet and perhaps go up one or two cup sizes.
  • Patients that have had several children will notice that their breast area has shrunk and are not what they once use to be especially in the upper half of the breast which creates a sagging look.  Often, these patients will request a breast augmentation with an implant or using their own fat to fill this empty area.  They often request to stay the same size or increase the breast size just by one cup size to re-create the volume they once had.
Breast implants or breast augmentation using fat? (AKA The Organic Boob Job)
The plastic surgeon at LCAS will need to see you to decide what is better for you as the patient.  Some patients may not have sufficient fat to have the ‘organic boob job’, and the surgeon will recommend breast implants in this case.  It is important to have a consultation and decide what you are most comfortable with.  The surgeons at LCAS, Dr Maurizio Viel and Dr Roberto Viel, will always provide you with risk and benefits of each method, and it important that you, at the patient, understand the procedure and what it entails.
Anaesthesia for breast augmentation/enlargement
The biggest fear about any plastic surgery procedure is the anesthesia.  For our breast augmentation surgeries, these are performed under sedation, which is not to be confused with general anesthesia.  The surgery for breast augmentation/enlargement takes around 1 hour.  The anesthetist places you under a gentle sedation, and the patient returns home the same day after 3 – 4 hours post-surgery.

Daily Mail 5th January 2012 pg 51 218x300 New Year, New You with Dr Roberto Viel also seen in the Daily Mail.

LCAS Harley St, London branch: Dr Roberto Viel, cosmetic surgeon, appears in the Daily Mail 5th Jan 2012 to discuss the MACS Face-lift for the new you in 2012.

Tired of the loose skin and sagging skin around the jawline, then see what Dr Roberto Viel, our London cosmetic surgeon, can do for you to refreshen up your face in 2012 with the MACS Face-lift without the ‘wind-tunnel’ effect.

This January, we want to help you look your best in 2012.  The economy is not the best currently, and there is even more need than ever to look your best to stay competitive.  2012 is turning for the better, and we need to start with ourselves so we decided to ask Dr Roberto Viel of the London Centre of Aesthetic Surgery on Harley Street what he suggest to help with the sagging skin around the jawline, and around the lower part of our face.

What is the MACS Face-Lift?

The MACS (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension) Face-lift or better known as the short-scar facelift is a simple and effective face-lift operation that is designed to lift the lower two-thirds of the face in a relatively straight forward procedure with minimal inconvenience to the patient.

Why is it not the same traditional ‘wind-tunnel’ face-lifts like Joan Rivers?

The MACS Face-lift is a more gentle technique lifting the face vertically, thereby, not changing much of the original structure of the face.  The old traditional methods still pull backwards, which tugs on the mouth and the corner of nose creating the unwanted ‘wind-tunnel’ effect.

What can I do to maintain this look after the MACS Face-lift?

Often with patients whose skin in lose on the face, they also perform the blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) that makes the eye look heavy.  This can be done at the same time as the face-lift, giving the face an overall refreshing look.  We also recommend doing regular botox treatments at our Harley St, London branch, to prevent wrinkles in certain areas, but we maintain that the patient should look natural at the same time, and not frozen.

How long does the MACS-Lift procedure take?

The face-lift using the MACS-Lift technique takes around 2 hours under sedation, which is not the same as general anaesthesia.  It is a mid-point between local and general anaesthesia, and yet the patient will have no memory of the procedure, known as a ‘twilight sedation’.  The MACS Face-lift surgery will take place at our London day-care centre, and the patient will return home the same day.

How long will I take to recover from the face-lift using the MACS-Lift method?

You have to wear a headband for 4 days, and the stitches are removed after 7 – 10 days after the MACS Face-lift surgery.  The scars after a while are almost invisible as most of it remains with the hairline so it is a perfect procedure even if you have short hair.

facelift 300x200 Christmas rush for botox and fillersChristmas, a time of self-indulgence – Dr Maurizio and Dr Roberto Viel tell us why botox and fillers are so popular during the Christmas rush.

Christmas is a time is a time for self indulgence, and this week Dr Maurizio Viel and Dr Roberto Viel are preparing everyone for the Christmas weekend and New Year’s Eve parties.  We ask the twin brothers what are the most popular cosmetic treatments in the week coming up to Christmas.  They tell me any treatment that is under 20 minutes is extremely popular in the rush up to Christmas.

Botox

Why is botox so popular during this time?

Everyone has been rushing around to finish off deadlines, do Christmas shopping and Christmas dinner preparations that they have had no time to prepare themselves.  So the quickest treatment to take away some lines and erase the woes of 2011 would be to use botox.  It takes 1 0 – 15 minutes, and there is no downtime.  The results for botox are quick and effective.  Having been used since the 1980s, it still remains one of the most popular treatments on the market these days.

How long does botox last for?

Botox should last on average 3 – 4 months in your first year.  As your facial muscles get progressively weaker, the next treatment can be repeated after 5- 6 months in the second year.

Fillers

What are fillers made from?

Non-permanent fillers should be made from hyaluronic acid.  Be careful what your doctor injects.  Always ask if you are not sure.  Any other substances could lead to many complications.  Brands such as Juvaderm and Radiesse are very well known on the market.

What are they used for?

As we age, we lose volume on the lips and upper part of the face, and this can used to make rejuvenate the contours of the face.  Also, if you have eye bags, the fillers can be used to blend in the eye bag taking years off your face.

How long does it last for?

These fillers should lasts between 8 months – 1 year.

facelift 300x200 Q & A with Dr Roberto Viel, Harley Street, London

Fancy having your answers answered by expert cosmetic surgeons?  Our readers have written to us with the following questions.  Dr Roberto Viel, from our London, Harley Street branch gives advice on a monthly basis.

Cosmetic  surgeon, Dr Roberto Viel, takes some time out of his busy schedule to answer some of your questions about fillers, mole removals, pigmentation from the sun, ageing hands.

Q. I’ve got some some lines around my mouth which make me look older than my age, what can I do to make them less visible?

A: These lines are usually exacerbated from smoking so if you are a smoker, stop immediately.  The easier treatment option is inject a temporary filler which will last 6 months to 1 year, and botox will not work for these lines unlike other lines on the face.  The other option is more invasive treatment to wipe out the lines via a laser treatment or chemical peel, however, there is a downtime of 2 weeks with possible side-effects.  After the treatment, make sure the skin is moisturized and a total sunblock should be added to the daily face routine.

Q: I have noticed a few unsightly moles on my back, and I can’t bear wearing dresses or tops that reveal them.  Is there anything I can do about them or is it better to leave them?

A: It is possible to see a plastic surgeon to remove the moles, and the scar will be very minimal.  The surgeon will inject some local anaesthetic in the surrounding area, and the mole will be gently cut out, and very fine stitches are used to minimize the scar.  Upon request, the mole samples can be sent to a laboratory to get tested to ensure there are no abnormalities.

Q:I am becoming more and more conscious of the appearance of my veiny hands – like Madonna’s which I feel are a tell-tale sign of my age.

A:There are two main options.  As we age, we start losing fat from the hands enhancing appearance of the bones and veins making it unsightly.  A temporary solution is to use fillers to inject into the hands to give a more even and plumper appearance.  A permanent solution is to use your own (autologous) fat, which can be harvested from the abdomen or other preferred area.  This is gently and precisely removed via liposuction, and then reinjected into the hands.  These procedures can be performed under sedation or local anaesthetic.

Q:I have lived in Dubai for many years but I have moved back to London, UK, and I think that the Dubai sun has contributed dramatically to the freckles and ages spots on my face.  Is there some sort of peel I could do there isn’t too aggressive?

A: There are three options.  Firstly, there is a topical cream applied by the surgeons as a facemask, followed by a home care treatment for 2 months.  Second option, when there is a more severe condition, a fraxel laser will help with the age spots and pigmentations.  Finally, a medium to deep peel can be used to eradicate the age spots and freckles.  However, with the peel you have to be extremely careful living in Dubai to avoid the sun completely post-treatment as they can lead to hyper-pigmentation.  If you are prone to sun spots and freckles, it is important to add a strong sunblock to your facial regime.

vaser liposelection 300x200 VASER Liposuction with Dr Roberto Viel, LondonVASER Liposuction by Dr Maurizio Viel and Dr Roberto Viel

London, UK: Dr Roberto Viel and Dr Maurizio Viel are the world leading experts on the VASER liposuction.  Technology created in the US and the most important is the surgeon behind the tool to create a safe and effective surgery.

We asked Dr Roberto Viel – why VASER liposuction?  The ultrasound machine developed in the US was first brought to Europe almost more 6 years ago, by Dr Maurizio Viel and his twin brother, Dr Roberto Viel, Italian plastic surgeons based on Harley Street, London have almost over 20 years experience.  The VASER liposuction has proved popular because of its gentle technology, accuracy and effectiveness, and the Viel brothers have trained countless surgeons in the art of VASER liposuction.

Why is the VASER liposuction so gentle?

Dr Roberto Viel tells us that the VASER liposuction uses ultrasound technology, which compared to traditional liposuction ‘melts’ the fat but leaves the surrounding tissues and vessels in tact.  The ultrasound frequency is set a particular frequency which targets just the fat cells causing them to ‘explode’, and then this is ‘vacuumed’ out of the body.

Accurate

What distinguishes the VASER system is that the ultrasound waves has the ability to distinguish between body fat and other tissues that are left best undisturbed such as vessels, nerves and connective tissues.  This latest generation of ultrasonic energy simply bounces off these healthy and important tissues while targeting and dissolving the less structured fat cells. The VASER liposuction surgery treatment will actually remove the fat, but leave your other tissues intact.

Less Pain after the VASER surgery

Because the technology is so effective, and the surronding tissues have been left relative untouched, the patient experiences less bruising, less bleeding and therefore, less pain.  Most patients return home the same day after their surgery, and return to normal activities within days.

Yummy Mummy

Mums tend to prefer the VASER liposuction method because it is fast and quick, and there is very little downtime.  We all know that as much as we love our children, they can be very unforgiving when it comes to being ill or tired.  Even if we have help at home our children still want the comfort of their mums, and that is why using the VASER allows mums to return back to ‘work’ the quickest.

CEO Bellies

Most successful men tend to be disciplined and exercised a great deal when they were in their twenties.  Unfortunately, the demands of a family life combined with the hectic schedules means that the belly has got larger partly due to the lack of exercise, and partly from all the lunch and dinners that come from entertaining clients for work.  With this, the men, are even more reluctant to go back to the gym because of the lack of motivation.  It is noticeable that when men make their decisions to do their surgery, they have been a lifestyle decision, and are actually often more motivated than women patients, generally speaking.  The surgery is the first step to returning back to their youthful physiques.  The case is the same according to Dr Roberto Viel based in our Harley Street clinic in London and Dr Maurizio Viel based in our Dubai clinic.

It is important to ensure that you choose a well-qualified surgeon for the tasks who has much experience.  If you give 2 photographers the same camera you could have different results.  You need to find a surgeon with an aesthetic eye too that has experience in handling the VASER liposuction.

wedding photo 300x199 Bridalplasty part 2 with Dr Roberto Viel and our Health and Beauty Experts.Bridalplasty – Part 2 with Dr Roberto Viel, cosmetic surgery on Harley Street.

Dr Roberto Viel shared with us in Part 1 on what treatments you can do which are non-invasive on your wedding day.

Part Two of Bridalplasty covers surgical procedures and things that you should consider before your big day. Our expert, Rebecca Silver, also gives tips about losing weight without surgery.

Liposuction – 3- 6 months before wedding day

All of us brides sometimes wish we could create the perfect curves on our wedding day, and it is possible with Dr Viel’s VASER Liposuction technique using a gentle ultrasound technology from the US.  Brides should consider this treatment at least 3 – 6 months before the wedding day.   The time frame will allow the body to recover, and the swelling to reduce so that when you are choosing that perfect wedding dress your body has the perfect contours.

The VASER system, by Dr Roberto Viel, is a gentle and accurate method to gently remove the fat, and it is so gentle that there is often less bruising, bleeding and a much quicker recovery time compared to traditional liposuction.  It is such accurate technology that it can remove fat from your chin and calves.

Breast Augmentation 2 – 3 months before wedding day

It is important when thinking not to go over the top with the size of the breast.  Dr Roberto Viel believes that the size of the implants should always match the body frame of the patient.  On your wedding day, you want to look demure, subtle and exquisite.  It is important to have the breast augmentation surgery at least 2 – 3 months before the big day so that it is perfect for the final dress fitting.

Loosing weight without surgery

Our Pilates health guru has some some top tips about how to loose weight without surgery.

Follow my top 5 nutrition tips to ensure that you will shine from every angle and feel like a picture perfect princess on the day of your dreams!

Think about what you drink:
Adequate hydration will detox our entire body and enables us to burn fat faster. Abstain from alcohol, sodas, coffee and energy drinks. Instead drink at least 1.5 litres of pure water spread throughout the day to see a dramatic improvement in your skin and energy levels.

Cut out all or most sugar:
Sugar in any form is totally toxic to our entire system, not only leading to inevitable weight gain and fat storage but also causing inflammation, unbalancing blood sugar, disrupting hormone and metabolic levels as well as ageing skin cells and damaging collagen. Eliminating sugar completely is the best thing you can do for your overall health and wellbeing. Watch out for hidden sources in processed foods and always check the ingredients of everything you buy.

Choose your carbs carefully:
You don’t need to cut carbs completely, instead focus on the carbohydrate quality – think “low GL” rather than “low carb”. GL refers to glycemic load which measures the glycemic effect of foods on the body. Replace white and refined carbohydrates with 100% wholegrains and low sugar fruits and vegetables which will maintain blood sugar levels and avoid storing energy as fat.

Pack in that protein:
Getting enough good quality protein is an absolutely crucial component for any weight loss regime or healthy eating plan. The amino acids contained in protein are the building blocks of all cells and the ideal fuel to fire up your fat burning metabolic furnace. Include a portion of protein at everytime you eat.

Find the right fats:
Getting the right mix of natural fats from healthy sources (olive oil, coconut oil, oily fish, whole eggs, avocado, nuts and seeds) are essential for hormone production, boosting your metabolism and giving a healthy sheen to your hair and glow to your skin.

When it comes to what you eat, the key is to keep it simple and stick with it!

Forget about weight loss and the numbers on the scale.

154 IMG 0658 168x300 Bridalplasty Part 1 Non surgical cosmetic procedures and other top tips.

Bridalplasty – Non-surgical cosmetic procedures with Dr Maurizio and Dr Roberto Viel on London’s Harley Street, UK.  What to do to prepare for your wedding day.

Many women start worrying what they can do to be the perfect bride for the big special day.  Dr Roberto Viel and Dr Maurizio Viel, cosmetic surgeons, who are based on Harley St, London and Dubai’s Healthcare City respectively have been looking after brides-to-be for over twenty years advising them on suitable cosmetic surgery procedures before their big day.  The Viel brothers most important advice is to give it some thought in advance and not rush into cosmetic surgery procedures.  In our a two-part feature we discuss cosmetic surgery procedures that are commonly seeked by brides-to-be and mother-in-laws-to-be.

Botox

It is really important not to over do this procedure, and to create a natural-looking effect.  It is important to have a trial run if it is your first time so that you can figure out what you want for your big day because you are a bride and you need to express yourself in photos – don’t forget it is an emotional day, and the best wedding day photos are when these emotions can be captured.  Botox will last around 3 months so it is best to try it 6 months in advance to have a trial run – tell your cosmetic surgeon so he can create a look perfect for your wedding day.  Remember, avoid the frozen look for this big day.

More information on botox

Fillers

Again, like botox we recommend doing a trial run.  It is important to use non-permanent fillers because permanent fillers can have serious complications after 2 – 3 years.  This can be added to the lips to give a more kissable effect but make sure this is done by a good surgeon with a good eye because the last thing that you want on your wedding day is the trout pout.  Also, you can ask a good surgeon to use the filler to disguise your eyebags.  The cosmetic surgeon is able to inject it below the bag in certain cases to blend the heavy eye bags making you look less tired and more refreshed on your wedding day.

More information on Fillers

PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma Facial Rejuvenation – an extreme but organic facial

If botox and fillers are not your thing, and you are looking for a more organic treatment, try the PRP Facial Rejuvenation – see Elle UK Magazine‘s review of Dr Roberto Viel’s treatment.  It essentially uses your own blood, and the platelets and plasma are extracted from the blood.  The concentrated concoction of your own platelets and plasma are then re-injected into your face to ‘wake up’ the sleepy stem cells.  These stem cells effectively are re-engerised to produce more collagen, skin cells, and the skin looks plumper, healthier and more refreshed.

Five Other Top Tips

1.  Don’t be tempted by yo-yo diets as this slows down your metabolic rate increasing your weight in the longer term.  If you want to have a good body on your wedding day you can be on a sensible diet but you MUST incorporate this with 20 minutes of exercise a day if you can.

2. Try to do exercises that incorporate the use of your core muscles.  You can even do some ballroom lessons for your big day for your first dance; do pilates at the gym or swim.  These will strengthen your core creating a flatter tummy avoiding the need to do liposuction.

3. Use a really good moisturiser to keep your complexion youthful.  Try Dr Viel’s X118 Serum, manufactured in the US, is one of the top selling serums.  Use a pea size amount and rub it on before putting your make-up on.  The hyaluronic acid based moisturiser can hold 1000x its weight in moisture.

4. Change some of your eating habits by getting rid of the normal pasta in your house and use spelt instead which is more nutritious and much better for you.

5. Superfood skin boosters – try incorporating more olive oil in your diet which is good for the skin cells; green tea to fight off free radicals which is the biggest cause of ageing; and raisins that contain resveratrol which is an antioxidant for anti-ageing.

3 300x124 Mother of two tells about her breast augmentation experience with Dr Roberto Viel.Mother of two tells about her  breast augmentation experience with Dr Roberto Viel, Harley Street, London

It is tough being a mum of two kids physically, and whilst I don’t have any regrets about having my children, my body is not what it used to be.  I decided to start Googling plastic surgeons in London, and I came across these Italian twin plastic surgeons who have been practising for more than twenty years in London as well as a few other surgeons.

The consultation – breast augmentation with implants

It was really hard admitting to myself that I needed cosmetic surgery.  In my twenties, I swore that I would never do any plastic surgery, then my first child was born, and I watched my body bounce back into shape after about 9 months, but my breasts had lost some volume but I was still ok with them.  Then, my baby boy was born 2 years laters, and he was a little guzzler, always hungry, and I breastfed him for 6 months.  My boobs, in my opinion were a disaster and certainly not what they used to be.  The top part of my breasts had hollowed out and they look more droopy – scarily they reminded me of my mother’s breasts.  I didn’t feel great in clothes, dreaded bikinis or any figure-hugging tops.

I booked a few consultations, and I saw several surgeons before coming across Dr Roberto Viel on Harley Street, London.  I liked him because he was very approachable, and he explained the procedure to me, the risks and the benefits in leyman terms.  Most important for me was that he had over 20 years of experience and that experience for me came over during the consultation.  Compared to the other surgeons, he listened to what I wanted. I told him that I only wanted to go up a cup size to look natural and he agreed.  I was originally a C cup, and after my two children, I went back to B cup, and I just wanted to restore my youthful breasts.  During my research, I found that Dr Roberto’s best quality as a cosmetic surgeon was that he could make breast augmentations look extremely natural, and that for me was crucial.   He was able to tell me why he was going to place my implants on top of the muscle rather than under the muscle; he explained carefully where he would place the incision; and he explained what type of implants he will use – silicon in my case.  He told me that he would use a high-tech silcon implant made with adhesive silicon so if in theory you sliced the implant in half the silicon would remain in its casing.  I had mentally signed on the dotted line.

I came home and told my husband my crazy idea for my birthday present, and he was not overly thrilled with the idea but eventually agreed to the whole thing.

Surgery Day

I was a little nervous about the procedure, and the night before I couldn’t sleep thinking that maybe the whole idea was a little silly.  I had two young kids, and what was the point in taking such risks.  However, before I knew it I was at the surgery, and the anaesthetist was talking through the sedation.  My husband sat with me also as the nurse explained all the post-operative care – I guess that was his department.  I was thinking of milking the recovery for all it was worth.  Then, they told me they were ready for me in theatre.  Within minutes of being on the operating table, I assume I was asleep within seconds.

It almost felt like a good 8 hours sleep – actually I was told by Dr Roberto that it was just 1hour – I felt a little sleepy from the sedation.  I opened my eyes, spoke a little with the nurses – mouth was very dry from the sedation, but I fell back to sleep for another hour.  My husband was back in the clinic by the time I woke up again, and he looked a little stressed and tired.  He later explained that he was a little nervous, and was relieved that I was ok – he told me his imagination was starting to go a little wild in the coffee shop just round the corner.  A few hours later, I was ready to go home.  I couldn’t believe that I was on the other side – I had done my long awaited boobjob.  Finally.  After days of contemplation, and worrying and decided on the surgery, that was all over now.  I just had to wait for the results.

Because of the anaesthesia I felt no pain for the first couple of hours after the surgery, and I headed home to bed, and slept.  It wasn’t a particularly comfortable first night sleep because I was half-excited, and half worried that I was going to crush these new breasts.  Then for the next few days they were tender and sore – it felt similar to the feeling when your breasts are first engorged with milk after birth.

2 Week later

The unveiling took place 2 week later back at the clinic, and I had the stitches removed, but I was still forced to wear a sports bra, day and night for a further 2 weeks.  It was more uncomfortable then the recovery of the surgery.  The breast augmentation surgery itself was fine  - the breasts were tender but overall manageable.  I was a little worried that they were looking  a bit more perky than I had bargained for, but Dr Roberto assured me that it was fine, and it would fall and resume a more natural contour.

1 month later

Well, my husband is delighted.

He actually thanked Dr Roberto profusely – I had never seen him look so enthusiastic about anything.  I think he seemed more thankful than me, and muttered why we hadn’t thought about this earlier.  My breasts looked even better than pre-babies.  They had shape, size, and I think I have even better boobs than any 21 year girl.  What a thrill.  I am honestly so pleased and relieved with the whole experience.

3 months later

I am expecting baby number 3 unexpectedly.
